How Your Sponsorship Makes An Impact

Our NET-ZERO operating budget allows us to allocate 100% of your donation to the specific Valley Guardian programs we have created with the organizations we support.

Here’s what your sponsorship makes possible:

Success Story

Rogelio was accepted into the Challenge Foundation program, the summer before his 5th grade year. Rogelio then graduated from Brophy College Prep in 2021 where he held a starting position on the varsity football team, took multiple AP courses, was a member of the Hermanos Unidos student organization and National Honor Society. During his senior year, he was recognized with an additional scholarship from the school in recognition of his perseverance through difficult times.

Rogelio is also a kind, responsible, optimistic, dedicated young man. He is the youngest child, and only son, with four older sisters. Rogelio serves as a natural leader and role model to our younger scholars and is always looking for a way to help.

When Rogelio began his time at All Saints’, the teachers would stop Challenge Foundation staff on campus to comment on his smile. It is infectious and heartwarming, and seems to be ever present.

In recent years, Rogelio’s mother was hospitalized with a significant illness. She was placed into a coma, put on a ventilator and remained hospitalized for weeks. Upon her return home, the family needed assistance securing medications, medical equipment and medical advice. The Challenge Foundation was able to assist in all areas.

Throughout all of the uncertainty of his mother’s illness, Rogelio remained focused on his academics and steadfast in his commitment to his responsibilities outside the classroom as well.

Rogelio is now a junior at Duke University as a pre-med major. He was the only freshman to make the Rugby team his freshman year and continued that commitment sophomore year. In the summer of 2023, the Challenge Foundation was able to connect Rogelio to a competitive summer internship program with the University of Arizona, medical school. Rogelio was selected and spent the summer in the lab with physicians doing cutting edge medical research.

In the summer of 2024, Rogelio enrolled in a summer physics class to continue making progress on his academic goals. Rogelio also continued to practice his networking skills by connecting with a Challenge Foundation contact who was able to give Rogelio the opportunity to gain some clinical experience in a hospital setting. This opportunity allowed Rogelio to log more than 200 hours of clinical observation for his medical school application.

As a junior, Rogelio now holds three leadership positions on campus at Duke University. He is committed to his success and we are excited to see how he will continue to maximize all of his opportunities.
